Media Revolution Print mag

This one to me is successful conceptually. It is using non traditional typography that violates the pictures as if they were being tagged on facebook and shows that you dont have to be a huge company to tell a story.

Rolling stone 5 gum

This ad is in almost every magazine. I think its a really nice isometric product display that conveys the taste of the gum well.

Rolling stone ad oldspice

This reminded me of photoshop tennis and the marketing concept is pretty strong... if you wear old spice :)

Illustrated movie posters

I Found this in Print Magazine and thought the pulp fiction one was particularly well done using nothing but the characters hair styles.

Movie Posters with photos

I found these in either PRINT magazine or Rolling Stone and decided they were worthy of blog status due to typography or illustration or concept.

Baseball info graphic PRINT mag

This info graphic was in Print magazine, there is another page but the picture cut off a word in a questionable spot. I like the halftone, circle graph and general layout.

com arts design annual 47 screwed

I thought these labels were bold and funny. The company had a problem or goal (screw top wine bottles) and the designers had a creative solution.

com arts design annual 47 care

I thought this was a creative design using a Common object and putting a spin on it.

com arts design annual 47 Dogbook

This is a logo for a dog obedience school. I like the idea, combining the 2 elements to communicate the service.

com arts design annual 47 recycled chair

The scan was difficult near the spine but I like the illustration and idea of this chair. Both are unique and outside the box a bit.

CSA images COM ARTS Design Annual 47

Ok, so this was an advertisement for stock images in Communication Arts BUT somebody somewhere designed this. I think it shows alot of creativity in the stamp like layout and the chosen images. Other stock companies usually just show one good large photo but this one shows off many illustrations and mentions its the only stock art company to ever be in the national museum of design.

indo

This is a such a cool site I used it for 2 blogs. It is creative and simple. The pictorial elements are well done and layered. There are simple but effective transitions between links. I like how this guy used great illustrations and a simple straight-forward layout which is un-cluttered but detailed.

Documentary posters

Site
These are just 2 of the documentary posters in Communication Arts web exhibit. There were a few others that were good but had questionable content for class. I think both of these display creativity by using 2 ordinary objects and combining them to make something different with a clear message.

National parks campaign CMYK

This is such a good design. The photography, the abstract clouds and the copy all work together making you want to get out of the house and away from the computer for a while. Its simple, slightly trendy and effective.

Actual size com arts webpicks

This is a cool website portfolio for a design agency called Actual Size, with tons of good stuff for print, web and motion. There are alot of successful designs here but I like the webpage design itself. At first its not clear how to navigate or if its loading because a gorilla climbs the tower but then you look down and see the links. The illustration and color choices are bold but not so loud as to compete with their portfolio pieces. I also like how you can hover over the titles and see a thumbnail.

Prudential

Im not sure what this logo communicates about its bussiness but I do find it visually interesting and dynamic. There are few strokes that easily convey a face which could probably be reduced in size and still retain its readability.

Mutual of Omaha

I chose this logo for its very angular and simplified image which is echoed in the typeface very well. I really like all the gentle and hard angles especially in the first feather as well as the negative space between each feather.

Doody Calls

The Guy in the truck probably hates life... but I bet everyone who sees this laughs. I think if you can reach people on an emotional level (especially making them laugh) they will remember it easier. I think its a SHORT-cut to your audience's LONG-term memory. Plus if you hire sombody like this and they knock on your door at 8 a.m. you're probably going to let them in your yard and walk away atleast smiling and feeling better about your job.

P.S. What do you think the uniforms look like?

Logos com arts

Logo link
This is a nice portfolio, in particular I like the logos. The Forbes interior Design logo looks very professional and I like how they put the name within the art (the interior).
